FAITH AND UNBELIEF

Matthew 17:20

And Jesus said unto them, “ Because of your unbelief; for verily I say unto you, if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain move from here to yonder place; and it shall move; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

People often ask me why it is that they can’t get healed, or get other people healed. They say that they know that the Bible teaches that we are to walk in health and healing. They know all the verses that tell us that healing is for today and that by the stripes of Jesus that we are healed.

I believe that the answer to this lies in the same place with the answer to why are we not living in more victory over the devil or why can’t we seem to get into the abundance of the Christian life in our finances. It is not in the fact that we don’t have enough faith for these things. We have plenty of faith, the problem is that we have too much of another thing. That problem is that we have too much unbelief to get over into the real supernatural things of God.

“Now wait just a minute here, you just said that there was plenty of faith,” you are probably saying about now. I know that it may sound like I have contradicted myself, but I assure you I have not. It is possible to have plenty of faith to get anything that you want and yet have so much unbelief that you cancel out or negate your faith.

Let me show you what I am talking about. If you read this whole passage, you will see that the disciples could not cast the demon out of the boy. If you read the same story as it is recorded in Mark 9, you will see that Jesus, when asked by the boy’s father for help to do what the disciples could not, asked the man if he believed, for if he believed, all things would be possible. The father replied, “Lord, I believe, help thou mine unbelief.”

See, faith and unbelief can operate at the same time. We all believe that God can, but sometimes we have a hard time believing that He will. You don’t need more faith, you need less unbelief. Don’t let unbelief cancel out your faith and nothing will be impossible to you.

MY WORD CONFESSION: I have all the faith I need, I believe; Lord help thou mine unbelief.
